    General Farouk Yahaya Biography

    General Farouk Yahaya Biography – General Farouk Yahaya is the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army (COAS). He was appointed on the 27th of May 2021 by the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Major General Farouk Yahaya was appointed following the death of the former Chief of Army Staff Major General Attahiru who died in a Nigerian Airforce Plane Crash.

    General Farouk Yahaya Early Life and Career

    The new COAS was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on January 5, 1966, but is a Zamfara State native. Zamfara state is his state of origin.

    He is a member of the elite Nigerian Defence Academy’s 37 Regular Course (NDA).

    On September 27, 1985, Major-General Yahaya began his cadet training and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 22, 1990.

    He has served in a variety of capacities, including Staff, Instructional, and Command.

    Garrison Commander Headquarters Guards Brigade, Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Deputy Director Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary, Deputy Director Army Research and Development, and Chief of Staff, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield are among the notable posts held by the new COAS.

    As part of a shakeup in the country’s security architecture, Buhari named Attahiru in January 2021.

    Buhari, who was mourning Attahiru, said the accident was “one lethal strike to our underbelly, at a time when our armed forces are prepared to end the country’s security difficulties.”

    Brigadier General Abdulkadir Kuliya, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence; Brigadier General Mohammed Idris Abdulkadir, Chief of Staff to the late COAS; Brigadier General Olatunji Lukman Olayinka, Aide-De-Camp to the COAS, Major Lawal Aliyu Hayat, and Major Nura Hamza were all buried last Saturday.

    Flight Lieutenant Taiwo Olufemi Asaniyi, Flight Lieutenant Alfred Ayodeji Olufade, Sergeant Opeyemi Isaiah Adesina, Sergeant Umar Saidu, and Aircraftman (ACM) Olamide Matthew Oyedepo were among those killed.

    Following his appointment as the new COAS, Farouk Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency military outfit in North Eastern part of Nigeria covering Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
