Jethro Lazenby, Nick Cave’s eldest son, died at the age of 30. He was the musician’s second son to die, following his’strained’ connection with his father and poor mental health.
It comes seven years after Arthur, the star’s 15-year-old son, died after falling off a cliff in Brighton.
Who is Jethro Lazenby?
Jethro was born in 1991, just 10 days before Cave’s second son Luke, to his Melbourne-based model mother Beau Lazenby.
Beau, his mother, was involved with Cave at the time. And he primarily worked as a model, with a few acting parts thrown in for good measure.
Nick Cave said today that his son, Jethro Lazenby, who he was photographed with in 2006, had died. ‘With great sadness, I must inform you that my son, Jethro, has passed away.’ At this time, we would want family privacy.’
Jethro, who lived in Melbourne, has previously stated that he did not meet Cave until he was seven years old, despite leveraging his father’s name to propel his own modeling career.
Jethro Lazenby told the Evening Standard in 2012 that he had a troubled relationship with his father and that he did not meet him until he was ‘around seven, eight’ years old.
Jethro travelled to the UK throughout his modeling career and worked for Balenciaga and Versace before returning to Australia.
Jethro had roles in the films Corroboree (2007) and My Little Princess (2011), both starring Isabelle Huppert, although he struggled with his mental health for several years.
Nick Cave and Susie Cave. Earl and Arthur, the couple’s twins, were born in 1991. Arthur died at the age of 15 after jumping down a cliff at Brighton’s Ovingdean.
On February 17, 2020, Cave attended the UK Premiere of “True History Of The Kelly Gang” at the Picturehouse Central in London with his wife, Susie.
He was released on bail two days before he died, after being imprisoned for kneeing his mother in the face during a cigarette fight in March, leaving her “bruised and bleeding.”
Sean Ghattas, Jethro’s lawyer, said his client had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, which had impacted his judgment.
A judge ordered him to get substance addiction therapy and stay away from her for two years.
He had already been convicted of violence against his girlfriend in 2018.
In a statement released this afternoon, Cave wrote, “With great regret, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has died away.” ‘At this time, we would appreciate family privacy.’
At July 2015, Australian singer Cave, best known as the vocalist of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, was struck by tragedy when he died after falling 60 feet from a cliff in Ovingdean, near Brighton.
An inquest later heard that the 15-year-old, described by his family as a “wonderful, happy, loving youngster,” had been using the hallucinogenic substance LSD.
Cave and his wife, Susie, moved from Brighton to Los Angeles after Arthur’s (pictured) death before returning to England.

Last year, the rocker was questioned why he chose to leave Brighton on the fan Q&A site Red Hand Files.
In response, the singer mentioned his Bad Seeds song Heart That Kills You, which he said was “obviously written” while he was mourning Arthur.
‘The lyrics of the song go a long way toward explaining why Susie [his wife] and I moved from Brighton to Los Angeles,’ Cave said. ‘ Brighton had simply become too depressing.
‘We did, however, return once we realized that our grief followed us no matter where we went.
‘These days, though, we spend most of our time in London, where we live in a tiny, secret pink house and are mostly happy.’
Cave also has two more kids, Luke, 30, and Earl, 21, from his first marriage to Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro and Susie Bick, whom he married in 1991.
Earl, Arthur’s twin, is an actor who has appeared in films such as The End of the F***ing World, Alex Rider, and The School for Good and Evil.
