What happened to Christopher Story?
Christopher Story (40) was last seen at his home in New Castle, Pennsylvania on August 11, 2013, at around 11:00 pm.
In a press release issued on March 2, 2023, the New Castle Police Department confirmed that human skeletal remains found in a wooded area in Taylor Township have been identified by the Lawrence County Coroner as those of Christopher Story.
The department has been investigating the case since Story was reported missing in order to locate him and determine his whereabouts.
Christopher Story’s Disappearance
In 2013, the FBI released a statement regarding Christopher Story’s disappearance, stating that he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, khaki shorts, a dark ball cap, and black shoes, and was not carrying his wallet, phone charger, or medication.
The statement further mentioned that Christopher had surgical pins/rods in his spine, which could cause him to walk with a limp, and his lack of medication could lead to agitation, confusion, or hallucinations.
Recently, the skeletal remains of Christopher Story were found less than five miles away from where he was last seen, with the help of the Coroner’s Office, the New Castle Police Detective Bureau, the FBI, and K9 cadaver dogs.
The remains were examined for medical characteristics and compared to X-rays, which confirmed the identity of the missing person. Christopher’s family has been informed of the findings, providing a “sort of closure” for his father, Philip Story.
While the investigation remains ongoing, the coroner has not yet determined the cause or manner of death.
The FBI will conduct forensic testing on the remains, and the New Castle Detective Bureau will continue to investigate the case. Lawrence County Coroner Rich “R.J.” Johnson expressed his satisfaction in providing closure to Christopher’s friends and family, but acknowledged that there is still work to be done to determine how Chris died.
