Kimrie Denise Lewis is an American actor, director, comedian, and writer who was born on March 16, 1982. She is best recognized for her role in the ABC comedy Single Parents as Poppy Banks. On Scandal, she played reporter Ashley Davidson on a regular basis.
Kimrie Lewis is the daughter of Carol, a news executive producer, and William, a news sound engineer and cameraman, and was born in Los Angeles. She grew up in the Southside of Los Angeles. She is the great-niece of jazz bassist Charles Mingus, through her father.
She earned a B.A. in Theatre from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Career
Lewis has a recurring role on ABC’s Scandal as reporter Ashley. She starred alongside Kerry Washington, Craig Robinson, and David Alan Grier in the film Peeples as Meg.
She played Madeline in the ABC Family drama series Chasing Life. She’s been in advertisements for McDonald’s, Sherwin-Williams, and Country Music Television, among others.
Lewis was set to appear as a guest star in season 5 of the Hulu sitcom The Mindy Project, according to TV Line in August 2016. Lewis joined the ABC sitcom Single Parents as a series regular in 2018. In 2021, Lewis debuted as a main character on the NBC comedy Kenan.
