In 2016, he joined Barclays as chief risk officer, and in October 2020, he was promoted to head of global markets and co-president of BBPLC.
Venkat had been Barclays’ head of global markets, and he took over from Jes Staley with immediate effect after the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority informed the bank of preliminary findings from an investigation into “how Staley had characterised his relationship with Epstein to Barclays.” He is based in the city of New York.
Venkat was Head of Global Markets, Co-President of Barclays Bank PLC (BBPLC), and a member of the Group Executive Committee of Barclays, based in New York, prior to his appointment as Group CEO. He has also worked at Barclays as the Chief Risk Officer.
Prior to joining Barclays in 2016, he worked at JP Morgan Chase from 1994, holding key positions in Asset Management, Investment Banking, and Risk Management, including Chief Investment Officer for over $200 billion in Global Fixed Income.
