These gunmen have been linked to either IPOB or Fulani Herdsmen but no one is certain for sure who carried out the act. People’s Gazette blamed Fulani Herdsmen in their post while Cyril Akunyili (brother to Dr Chike) blamed IPOB.
On Tuesday evening, he was assassinated at Umuoji, Anambra State’s Idemili North LGA.
Though facts of the occurrence are still vague, a family source said the deceased was still at the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), where he was honored just hours before he was assassinated.
“God, please render the devil and his agents helpless and useless,” the source, who had been devastated by the murder, said.
“I was with this man at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, the same day. It was an event hosted by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch, when the late Dora Akunyili was honored.
“He spoke glowingly of Dora and gave the association a donation of $500,000.”
He was there with his son, Obum, who now works for the state government of Anambra.
“We watched them walk away to their cars, and it was touching to see Obum hugging him tightly as they parted ways to board their respective automobiles.
“Obum was in a white Hilux, and the dude was in a huge Jeep,” says the narrator (i think Prado). Please, God, have mercy!”
