Ted Dexter Biography
Ted Dexter, CBE (15 May 1935 – 25 August 2021) was a cricketer for England. Lord Ted is a nickname he has earned for himself. He was one of the special entrants into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in June 2021, to commemorate the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship final.
Ted Dexter Education
Dexter attended Norfolk House, Beaconsfield, and Radley College, where he was a member of the first XI from 1950 to 1953, first as a wicket-keeper and then as captain in 1953, and earned the moniker “Lord Ted” for his aloof self-assurance.
Ted Dexter Career
He went on to lead England and Sussex in the early 1960s, and his final Test match was against Australia in 1968, ten years after his debut.
Dexter, along with Patsy Hendren, Ken Barrington, Alastair Cook, and Joe Root, is one of just five England batsmen to achieve 50 in six successive innings.
The record is seven innings, which has only been achieved by six batters in history, none of whom have ever represented England.
Dexter finished his Test career with 4,502 runs at a 47.89 average, as well as 66 wickets at a 34.93 average.
Dexter left cricket in 1968 to pursue other interests, remaining a journalist, becoming a broadcaster, and creating a public relations firm. He teamed up with Bob Willis in the late 1980s to find fresh fast bowlers for English cricket.
Dexter came up with the notion of creating a rating system for Test cricketers in 1987. The Deloittes Ratings were released after he developed the system with statisticians Gordon Vince and Rob Eastaway. The Ratings gained traction over time, and in 2003, the International Cricket Council formally recognized them as the official ICC Player Rankings. Ted Dexter Net worth
