Sean Lock was an English comedian and actor who lived from April 22, 1963, to August 20, 2021. He has been nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award on several occasions.
From 2005 to 2015, he was a team captain on Channel 4’s comedic panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats, and from 2012 until 2021, he was a team leader on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Lock was born on April 22, 1963, in Chertsey, Surrey. He worked as a laborer on construction sites before becoming a comedian. He had skin cancer during this time. He also did a variety of odd jobs, including three months as a goatherd in the central French Alps.

He began his comic career as a stand-up comedian, winning the British Comedy Award for Best Live Comic in 2000. Lock’s early television work includes a supporting role in the 1993 series Newman and Baddiel in Pieces opposite Rob Newman and David Baddiel, as well as traveling with them as their support act.
Lock was a regular on radio panel shows, script-edited for Bill Bailey’s BBC2 series Is It Bill Bailey? in 1998, and hosted his own programme on BBC Radio 4.
In 1995, Lock appeared alongside Lee Evans and Phil Daniels in an episode of The World of Lee Evans as an escaped murderer.
Lock authored the screenplay for Andrew Kötting’s feature film This Filthy Earth, which was released in 2001 and was based on Émile Zola’s novel La Terre.
In 2004, Lock had a cameo appearance in Johnny Vaughan’s Top Buzzer, television’s first ever “dope opera.” In 2005, he joined the panel game 8 Out of 10 Cats as a regular team captain.
